Tech Challenge

On Wednesday Room 5 were meant to go to Anderson Park but unfortunately it started to rain. so instead we decided to do a tech challenge. Our aim was to shoot a ping pong ball over a chair and only 3 out of 6 teams passed. The next challenge was to shoot it over a desk with a chair on it. All 3 made it over. The next challenge was to get it over a piece of wire on the roof. Only one team made it over the wire and they were Jayden, Rueben, Jade, Joel, and Lilli. They all got a very special prize….A CHOCHOLATE FISH!!

Fire Box!

The Fire Box was an Experience for 12 students out of our whole school and 2 people out of our class got chosen . We had to firstly put on all the fire gear and we also put on a gas mask and then put a plastic bag over it so that we could practise not being able to see very clear . Then when we had our covered masks on then we had to find a dummy called Elvis on a chair. We all had partners to go with and one of us had to tell us where to go. After interval we went into the back of the truck that had smoke in the back. We went in there with our partner that we had for our first session and then we took turns going in the truck with our partners then at the end we got to go in by ourselves.
We enjoyed that day.

Cross Country

This term Rooms 4,5 and 6 have been training for cross country. We have a competion for the classes to see what class could build the amount of km to get to Wellington. The winners and the km is 351 km and there is no prize but the classes still want win. If you are in the first ten on cross country day the teachers will shout you McDonalds for lunch.

Welcome Back!

Hey High Fivers!

Welcome back to term 3, and what a great start back it has been! Lots on this term, like; cross country, a new inquiry, poetry, a trip to Anderson Park, along with all the usual activities. Looking forward to our 'Fun Day', hopefully sooner rather than later but we will just have to wait and see won't we. :)

Science Inquiry

Did you know that the iron used in nutrigrain is the same iron used in fences!
We know this because we did an experiment on it, we were able to use a magnet to pull out bits of real iron metal.

This week M.R Wallace came to our class and showed us how to make sodium carbonate, and showed us what it does when a flame heats it. It goes pop!

This week we did an experiment to try to get the fat out of food like chocolate, almonds, butter etc. And guess what we can get the fat out by using methanol.

Mufti Day

On Friday the 29th of May, T.I.S had a school mufti day.
Everyone who wore mufti had to wear something blue and bring a minimum
of a $1 coin. The school was fundraising for the Heart Foundation,
But you didn’t have to just bring a gold coin, you could bring as much money as you wanted (if you are generous enough), so all the classes are having a class competition to see which class is the most generous. Unfortunately we didn’t win.

Taradale High Stage Challenge

T.H.S stage challenge

On Wednesday the 21st May some classes walked over to the high school to watch their stage challenge performance. It was about getting people to work together to raise money for repairing damage to the community after a fire. There was lots of great dancing and fantastic costumes and music. They repeated the performance so that we didn’t miss anything out of it. There was lots of movement and they had a fantastic ending. They will be repeating this performance at the Municipal Napier theatre for a competition who, by that effort, are bound to win. We were amazed to find out that the students had set the whole thing up with no help from the teachers at all!!! I would rate it out of ten a 9 ½.
